hospital Tour

Welcome, come on inside!

We would love to take you on a virtual tour of our Animal Hospital.
Below, you will find photographs of the entire hospital and many of our Team Members.  This tour will help to provide a comprehensive "behind the scenes" look at the many pet-care services that we are able to offer as a multi-veterinarian practice.
Please feel free to look around!

Welcome to Ajax Animal Hospital
Client Reception Area is where our knowledgeable and animal-loving veterinary receptionists will greet you and your pet when you arrive with a smile, a pat and maybe a treat.
Our front office, waiting area is where your dog will be weighed in (we have smaller scales in the examination rooms for cats and other small patients) and where you can pick up food, have a coffee and tell us about your pet. Please be sure to keep your dog on a leash and your cat in a carrier so that they will be safe.
Our reception team will do their best to find answers to your questions and help you to take home the proper treatments and foods for your pet.
Examination Room 1 is our larger examination room which works well for larger dogs or for appointments where more than one furry family member comes to see us. The examination table is a special one that can be quietly lowered and raised to help with patients that are not easily lifted.
We have 5 different examination rooms where you can meet with the veterinarian for a consultation to share history information about your pet (this includes medical history as well as the kind of lifestyle your pet leads so that we can tailor a wellness plan that is appropriate for your pet).
Dr. Findlay and Karen (our Animal Health Technician) are performing a pre-anesthetic examination on this handsome patient prior to surgery. All patients are examined by a veterinarian on their Surgery Day so that an individualized anesthetic and surgical plan can be developed.
This is the centre of the hospital. Here, we are able to provide more involved medical treatments, collect laboratory samples, prepare patients for surgery or dentistry, monitor hospitalized patients and maintain your pet's computerized medical record.
In our In-House Laboratory, we are able to perform many different lab tests while you are visiting with your pet. We have modern blood analyzers that can perform complete blood counts, electrolyte and biochemistry analysis. Our Registered Veterinary Technicians can also evaluate some microscope samples on-site (including ear cytology, skin tests, and urine tests) and we have a great relationship with a world-class reference laboratory that is close by for many other tests when they are needed.
The Surgical Suite. Once the patient is under anesthetic. The appropriate area is shaved (to remove hair) and the surgical site is prepared, the surgeon (in this case, a smiling Dr. Ehrlich) will be gowned/masked/capped and gloved before they use a surgical drape to ensure a sterile field is maintained.
The patient is constantly monitored by a Registered Veterinary Technician under the direction of a veterinarian (Sarah is monitoring this patient for Dr. Barnes) for the entire surgical procedure. We have Cardell Anesthesia Monitors to measure and respond to changes in ECG, Blood Pressure, Blood Oxygen Levels, Heart Rate, Respiration Rate and Body Temperature.
Surgical Recovery. Our patients recover from anesthesia in our Treatment room where they can be closely monitored and kept warm and comfortable. This big, adorable girl is sitting comfortably, less than 15 minutes after her ovariohysterectomy (spay) procedure.
The Dental Suite. We are dedicated to providing excellent oral and dental care for our patients. In our Dental suite we have all the anesthetic monitoring and safety equipment found in our Surgical suite. When we perform a COHAT (Comprehensive Oral Health Assessment and Treatment) for your pet, Digital Dental X-rays are used to assess all teeth both above and below the gumline.
Dr. Jones' Dental Assessment Dr. Jones will assess all teeth and determine the best treatment to improve the health of your pet's mouth. Healthy teeth will be ultrasonically scaled and polished and diseased teeth will be appropriately treated with the help of dental nerve local anesthetic blocks to help prevent pain and improve anesthetic safety.
Our Radiology room is equipped with a Digital X-ray Machine that allows for high quality images to be taken for assessment of many different conditions (not just broken bones). We will be able to share these images with you on a high quality digital monitor so that you can see what we see.
The X-ray table. Thanks to Tina our RVT, Kay our Vet Assistant and Monty for showing us how x-rays are taken!
Our Digital Ultrasound Machine and trained veterinarians are able to perform both abdominal and cardiac ultrasound assessments to visualize organs and tissues in a different way. We recently upgraded to this machine and it both provides excellent images and offers the convenience of being easily moved to the patient if this is required in an emergency.
We are proud to be able to offer both Therapeutic Laser Treatment and Veterinary Medical Acupuncture for our patients! All 6 of our Veterinarians are certified in the use of our K-Laser Class IV Therapeutic Laser. This innovative therapy has many applications for patients suffering from acute and chronic pain, inflammation and itching.
Our K-cube Therapeutic Laser can move to where it is needed so that surgical, dental, orthopedic, dermatology and respiratory patients are all able to receive care where it is safest for them!! This pretty dog, Fozzie, wagged her tail for the whole treatment!
Medical Acupuncture in Room5 This handsome boxer is relaxing with Dr. Bowes while she performs a medical acupuncture therapy session to help relieve his back and leg pain. Ask our veterinarians if acupuncture would be appropriate to help your pet. We often use acupuncture in association with therapeutic laser to achieve the best results.
Upstairs in the hospital, there are the offices where the Veterinarians can update patient records and call/consult with clients and specialists. We also have a lunchroom and a "nap-room" where our team can take a well-deserved break from time to time. This picture shows Scott, our Practice Manager, working in our Board Room with Casey and Finnegan helping as always.
Finnegan - Team Counsellor. Casey and Finnegan are our two younger, and very handsome male, cats. They joined us a few years ago when they were rescued from a dangerous situation. The boys tend to stay behind the scenes and provide comfort and care to our team. Finnegan is a thoughtful and gentle boy.
Casey - Chief Troublemaker And Casey is full of beans and makes us laugh every day!! You may hear him thundering down the hall above the Examination Rooms from time to time. He plays non-stop!
