Our Veterinary Team

Dr. Karyn Jones

Dr. Karyn Jones joined the team at Ajax Animal Hospital as a veterinarian in 2001.   This represented a real homecoming for her as she actually started with us in 1987 as student veterinary assistant while she was attending Ajax High School.

In April of 2010, Dr. Jones became the owner of Ajax Animal Hospital!  This exciting step in her career reflects a passion for veterinary medicine that has also included involvement in Veterinary Associations, Editorial and Advisory Boards including 2 terms as the President of the Ontario Veterinary College Alumni Association.

Becoming a veterinarian reflects a life-long fascination and dedication to the well-being of all animals.  After achieving an honours degree in Wildlife Biology from the University of Guelph, Karyn ran a wildlife education and rehabilitation centre in Ottawa.  During her time at O.V.C., she pursued her special interests in Pain Control and Anesthesia, Surgery and Exotic/wild animal medicine.  She really enjoys mentoring both prospective and current veterinary students.

Karyn Jo 08

Karyn cherishes the time that she spends with her husband, Scott McRobbie (the Practice Manager at AAH) and her stepson Wyatt.  Their home is shared with Peggy and Ilene, both gorgeous 3 legged cats (and AAH adoptees) and Lyvie (Black Olyve), a flat coated retriever who has trained in Canine Agility.

Dr. Barbara Findlay

BJF 2005

Dr. Findlay started her post secondary education at the University of Waterloo and graduated with an Honours BSc in kinesiology and a B Math.  She then attended the University of Guelph and obtained her DVM degree.  She has been a kind, thorough and compassionate member of the Ajax Animal Hospital veterinary team since 1981.

Barb's special interest is Cardiology.

Barb shares her home with her husband Peter, a pilot with Bombardier, daughter Kristy and the 4 cats Harvey, Patty, Phil, and Jack.  All the cats are Ajax Animal Hospital adoptees.  When not at the hospital, Dr. Findlay is kept very busy driving her daughter to her many activities, helping with piano practice and homework.  What little time is left is spent enjoying a game of golf with her family or hiking.

Dr. Mimi Ehrlich

Mimi 08

Dr. Mimi Ehrlich arrived at the Ajax Animal Hospital fresh from the Ontario Veterinary College in 1992, and plans to ‘stay here forever’.  She left a career as a computer operator to go back to school as an adult as she cannot imagine any vocation that could be more rewarding than her current one.  Her special interests include Behaviour, Internal Medicine and Ultrasound, as well as Emergency Medicine. She also enjoys looking after the pocket pets (rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, rats).

Her husband, Frank, was the motivating factor in Mimi’s career choice as he first introduced her to the possibility of cats as pets.  Now, she shares her home with Pokeman, Little Orphan Frannie, Touloose and Josephine, all rescue cats, and spends much of her spare time cleaning up cat hair.  Her other interests include a fascination with karate (“I get to kick, scream, smash things, and it’s all good!”), and making home-made sushi and chocolate.  She also has a love of adventure travel.  While it has always been her dream to own a Golden Retriever, whenever her family votes, it is always 2 for, and 4 (cats) against.  She has the honour of being the only member of Golden Rescue not actually having a dog, let alone a Golden Retriever.

Dr. Laura Lenhardt

Dr. Laura Lenhardt joined the Ajax Animal Hospital as a veterinarian after graduating from the Ontario Veterinary College in 2008.  Laura spent several years with us prior to graduation as a student veterinary assistant throughout her studies at the University of Guelph.  Born and raised in Ajax, it has been a dream come true for her to return to practice in this community, caring for the pets and their families.

Laura has a special interest in Companion Animal Nutrition.

Much of Laura’s free time is spent with her husband, Andrew and their baby daughter, Kara.  Their home is shared with Pearl, a Siamese cross tabby cat that showed up on their front stoop as a stray and claimed it as her own!  They also have adopted a retired police dog, Guinness, who is a handsome chocolate lab.

(We are happy to welcome Dr. Lenhardt back after her maternity leave, November 2012)

Dr. Pearl Chan

Dr. Chan joined Ajax Animal Hospital in October, 2011 and she is a gentle, kind and thoughtful veterinarian.  Pearl is a recent graduate of the Ontario Veterinary College and while in school, she supplemented her education by working as an assistant in a busy referral practice.  She also volunteered at a First Nations Veterinary Wellness Clinic and travelled to Honduras to provide veterinary care as a volunteer with VIDA (Volunteers for Intercultural Diversity and Adventures).  Pearl is also fluent in Cantonese.

Pearl has special interests in Ophthalmology and Dentistry and she enjoys all aspects of companion animal practice.

Pearl's family is complete with four-legged members and she is loved by Coco, a female American Eskimo Dog, and Nemo, a male Long-haired Chihuahua.  Pearl enjoyes being physically active and in her spare time, she likes to play Floor Hockey in a co-ed house-league and exploring different cuisines in and around Toronto.

Dr. Lisa Bowes

Dr. Bowes is an enthusiastic, compassionate and motivated addition to the Veterinary Team at Ajax Animal Hospital.  She joined us in November, 2011 and is a 2009 graduate of the Atlantic Veterinary College in Charlottetown P.E.I.  She has been practicing companion animal medicine since graduation.

Lisa enjoys all aspects of practice and has a special interest in soft tissue surgery.  She is also interested in Abdominal Ultrasound and will be able to support Dr. Jones in looking after our ferret patients.

Originally from a small town in Nova Scotia, Lisa now calls our area home and along with her partner Corey, she is busy working on home renovations.  Their home is shared by two very well-loved cats, Samuel Sasscat is a handsome Buff Tabby and Princess Zoey is a pretty little Calico.  Recently, they have adopted a new family member whose name is Skills.  He is a Whippet/Jack Russell/Border Collie and an active addition to the family... the cats are adjusting.  Lisa is also an avid horse-back rider and she loves to spend time at the farm with her thoroughbred, Hailey.

Dr. Trace MacKay

No stranger to the Ajax Animal Hospital, Dr. Trace MacKay has been providing veterinary (and comic) relief to your animal health care team since 2003.  A three-time graduate of the University of Guelph, Trace completed an Honours B.Sc. in Biological Science (1999), and both a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (2003) and Masters of Public Health (2010) from the Ontario Veterinary College.
