Weight Management for Pets

Using exercise and diet to help your pet reach a healthy weight.

Being overweight is no fun for your cherished pets. Excess weight limits them in their daily life and affects their overall well-being. At our hospital we are proud to offer weight management services to overweight or obese pets. Our veterinarians can determine if the extra pouch that your pet has is a cause for concern with their weight.

What factors contribute to my pet being overweight?

There are many factors that contribute to pets being overweight like their diet, exercise/lifestyle, age, medical status and their breed. During weight management consultations we address these issues and create a unique dietary plan that can get your pet to a healthy weight.

Why do overweight pets need to lose weight?

Although having a chunky pet means there's more of them to love, the weight has a negative impact on their overall health. Overweight or obese pets often develop different health problems like diabetes, arthritis, high blood pressure, cancer, heart problems, and kidney and liver disease. Some of these conditions can be lifelong, such as arthritis that has no cure and will continue to worsen if your pet doesn't lose weight. These medical problems will change your pet's lifestyle, quality of life and worst of all will shorten their life-span. This is why we recommend that they lose weight before it's too late.
